University of Guelph

Rachel has recently completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Guelph in Environmental Governance and English. Throughout her time with the ICASP project, Rachel has acted as the coordinator for the 2010 Summer Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation and the 2011-2012 Guelph Jazz Festival Colloquia. Rachel continues to provide administrative support for the project, including coordination for the 2013 Guelph Jazz Festival Colloquium.

Improvisation implies a deep connection between the personal and the communal, self and world. A “good” improviser successfully navigates musical and institutional boundaries and the desire for self-expression, pleasing not only herself but the listener as well.
