This Week's Thinking Spaces Reading Group is Cancelled
Posted: Thursday, December 6, 2012Due to the passing of Dave Brubeck, the meeting of the Thinking Spaces reading group with guest presenter Matt Brubeck on Friday, December 7th has been cancelled. Thinking Spaces will reconvene in 2013 at 3:00pm on Friday, January 11th with guest presenter Mark Miller. More information to follow.

First Series of "Silence" Performances a Success

Posted: Thursday, November 8, 2012The international symposium, "Lost in Diversity: A Transatlantic Dialogue on the Social Relevance of Jazz" will be taking place from November 8th - 9th at the Heidelberg Centre for American Studies, Heidelberg, Germany. The symposium features a keynote address by project researcher, Daniel Fischlin, a University Research Chair and Full Professor of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph.

Silence is a new and exciting portal in Guelph for adventurous and innovative sound events. Silence will include a monthly concert series, occasional improvisation sessions, and handmade music nights and workshops. Event attendees can expect a wide range of music, from noise and ambient, to installations and sound art, to computer music and handmade music, to post rock and psych, as well as promising a surplus of the unexpected.
ICASP Announces Book Series with Duke University Press
Posted: Thursday, October 18, 2012ICASP is pleased to announce that the Improvisation, Community, and Social Practice Book Series contract has been signed with Duke University Press. Books in this new series advocate musical improvisation as a crucial model for political, cultural, and ethical dialogue and action—for imagining and creating alternative ways of knowing and being in the world. The books are collaborations among performers, scholars, and activists from a wide range of disciplines.
ICASP Remembers Digital Media Editor and Friend, Kenny Doren
Posted: Thursday, October 18, 2012It is with sadness that ICASP reflects on the passing of multi-media artist and composer, Kenny Doren, on September 22nd, 2012. Kenny was a friend and supporter of the ICASP project and made valuable contributions as the project’s Digital Media Editor. Kenny’s work was exhibited and celebrated in venues worldwide, while his own teaching as a professional in video and sound work was valued by all those who learned from his expertise in the ICASP community at Guelph.
